In 2019, a tragic accident occurred at John Brooke Timber Treatments in Nottingham, England. An employee, Tom Brooke, was struck and killed by a JCB wheel loader while walking across the company’s yard. Following the incident, the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) conducted a thorough investigation.
The investigation revealed that the company had failed to implement adequate safety measures. There were no clear pedestrian routes, and traffic management was insufficient. These unsafe practices contributed to the fatal accident. As a result, John Brooke (Timber Treatments) Limited was found to be in violation of health and safety regulations.
The company was fined £22,500 and ordered to pay costs of £44,227.28. In response to the incident, John Brooke Timber Treatments has taken steps to improve workplace safety. They have built an extension to separate pedestrian and vehicle traffic and implemented additional safety measures.
